Illini West Hosts This Year's Western Area FBLA Conference By ??, ??

The Future Business Leaders of America chapter at Illini West High School has recently hosted this year's Western Area FBLA Leadership Conference. Area officers were represented by Illini West High School students, Lauren McGaughey, President, Cody Dunn, Vice President, Paige Foote, Secretary, and Kelsey Jackson, Treasurer of the FBLA Western Area. A lot of planning took place to host seven different area schools on January 14, 2010 at Western Illinois University. This year, the officer team led by Lauren McGaughey, State Vice President (representing the Western Area), implemented many changes. One of the changes was the introduction of the March of Dimes collection contest. "The March of Dimes is the affiliated organization of the National FBLA and we wanted to support them in some way. We held a school competition collecting change during the conference," said Lauren McGaughey. "The overall collection was successful and has brought in more than $139.00. This is our second activity this year our chapter has done to support the March of Dimes," added Lauren. Another addition incorporated was the raffle prizes. Through the assistance of area businesses, prizes were collected for the conference. This was well received by all the students. IWHS FBLA would like thank the following businesses for contributing items for the raffle. They are: Capps, Ancelet, Clark & Rasmussen; Carl Sandburg College; Conn Communications; First Community Bank; Family Fitness Center; First State Bank of Illinois; Marine Bank & Trust; WCAZ 99.0 AM; and Western Illinois University. New officers were inducted for the 2010-2011 Western Area FBLA. They will assume duties this summer. Mrs. Twaddle, co-adviser of FBLA said, "Overall, I am pleased with all the students' behavior and performance. They have done a wonderful job and took the competition seriously. A lot of hard work on the students' part went into making this event a success. I am proud of them all."
